The council makes Daemon the Commander of The City Watch in episode one also known as the gold cloaks, a loyal army of his own but does nothing with it after the first three episodes. However, despite a splendid cast and amazing performances, the screenplay leaves them broken and discarded by the end. The only real threats to the throne are Prince Daemon Targaryen and Princess Rhaenyra. He continues to pull strings behind the scenes but he isn't ambitious enough or a big enough threat to anyone. The council has very little hold on the King and his power, except Otto Hightower, the King's hand. Throughout season one, we do get to see two other places across the seven kingdoms, a few rooms in the castle in King's Landing but they are too nameless or faceless to be of any importance to the characters or the power of Iron Throne. The characters are restricted to three places, King's Landing, a bridge on Dragonstone, and the Throne room. However, in season 1 we hardly see any of it. The throne is once again up for grabs which will begin a civil war across Westeros. The makers take less than an episode to set the story, which was essentially known since the first teaser came out. The speculation is enough for other contenders to throw their names in the midst of chaos, King Viserys' brother Prince Daemon Targaryen has his mind set on the throne and Princess Rhaenyra wants to be chosen to be the heir her father longs for. After several miscarriages they do have a baby on the way, still, it has left the council worried that it might not be the heir they need. King's firstborn child is his daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen with one and only wife Queen Aemma Arryn. The only concern for the King and his council is the lack of an heir. House of The Dragon does begin in the peaceful reign of King Viserys I Targaryen. The show has picked up on all the right elements from the HBO hit show Game of Thrones, the costumes, the majestic dragons, the political turmoil, and scaled back on everything that brought it criticism the orgies, and the violence. They were rightfully feared in GOT, for being responsible for a lot of destruction but that destruction is not in season 1 of House Of The Dragon.
200 years ago more than a few dragons roamed the skies with their riders, wild and free making their presence felt. Before Baratheons and Lannisters fought for the Iron Throne, Westeros saw many Targaryens driven mad by it.
